THE 8 ELEMENTS™ 2016 Retesting Procedures

The retesting requirements vary at each phase of the 8 Elements™ program.  Participants are invited to retest as many times as they want within 18 months of the last day of the intensive.  If there is not a passing score within 18 months, then we feel this is an indication that you need more experience with the material, so you'll need to repeat the intensive to test again.

We offer retests for both the practical and written test components, and resubmissions of the final project. You are only required to retest/resubmit for the component that needs completion.

If you have any questions, please refer to the testing FAQ you received during the intensive.  If your question is not addressed on the FAQ or on this page, then please email us at the8elements@gmail.com.

RETESTING WRITTEN COMPONENT ONLY:

If you wish to retake only the written component, you may register and pay for your written retest here

Please see below for a list of upcoming 2016 written retest dates. All written retests  are scheduled by time slot and will be administered online during these dates.  Once your registration is received, we will email you to confirm your written test time slot.

You will need the following to take the written test:

  1. A computer
  2. A webcam
  3. A Skype account
  4. A broadband internet connection with at least 500 Kbps download speed. If you're unsure, test your internet connection here.

You will receive your test results 2-4 weeks after your written test submission.

ReTesting Practical Component Only:

If you wish to retake only the practical component, you may register and pay for your practical retest here.

We are scheduling practical submission due dates to make sure they can be handled quickly and easily.  Please see below for a list of upcoming 2016 practical submission due dates. You will be asked to choose your next practical submission due date from the given date options when you register for your retest.

You will submit your practical retest by sending us a video link. Here's how to get your video to us:

  1. The preferred method is to upload your video to youtube as an “unlisted” video and send the link to the8elements@gmail.com.
  2. If youtube gives you trouble about copyright, you can try vimeo.com.
  3. If neither of those work, you can send your video to us via wetransfer.com, which will allow us to download your video with a link. Send your wetransfer to the8elements@gmail.com.
  4. Please do not send personal messages to RB, Brittany, or Sol about your test on facebook, as they could get lost. We will be tracking everything from one email address only.

Requirements for Video Submission (A Note from RB):

  1. The video is high enough quality that I can see your movement clearly. It doesn’t have to be HD, just well-lit and easy to see.
  2. The video has just one take — your best take. If you send several takes, I’ll watch the first one and treat that as your submission.
  3. The video is not edited, and is all one clip — a single take.
  4. For Phases II & III only: The audio is clear, and that your movement, zils, and music are all in sync. Zils and music can seem out-of-sync if you use a speaker that is angled away from the computer. The best luck seems to be: computer speakers and quiet or taped zils, so I can hear you and your music. I need to be sure that you’re on the beat.
  5. Be sure you feel good about your video, and it’s your now-best! This doesn’t mean it has to be someone else’s idea of perfect, just that it meets the requirements outlined for the assignment.
  6. If you’re unsure about the specific requirements for the assignment, and the answer’s not in the materials provided during the intensive or the files of the facebook group, please feel free to ask!
  7. Tip #1: You may want to video yourself frequently before the due date. It always takes longer than you think to get a take you’re happy with, and lighting, sound, and racing against the clock may not give you the video result that you would like. Start early and send in something you’re proud of!

Please note:  You may submit your practical test before the due date you choose, however it will not be reviewed until the practical submission due date. You will receive your practical test results 2-4 weeks after the practical submission due date.

REsubmitting the final project (for Phase III, culmination only):

If you wish to resubmit your final project, you may register and pay for your final project resubmission here.

We are scheduling final project submission due dates to make sure they can be handled quickly and easily.  Please see below for a list of upcoming 2016 final project submission due dates. You will be asked to choose your next final project submission due date from the given date options when you register for your retest. Once you register for your retest, you will be provided with additional details via email.

Guidelines for the written work to include with your Final Project Submission

  1. Please submit all files in .pdf format.
    • Most programs can export as PDF.
    • You can do a google search with: the program you’re using + “export as PDF.” For example, search “Microsoft Word export PDF.”
    • If the program you are using does not offer a PDF export option, then you can create your files in Google Docs (https://www.google.com/docs/about/) and export to pdf from there.
  2. Please send photos as jpegs (.jpg or .jpeg), and be sure the images are large enough to read.
  3. Combine your submission into as few files as possible.
    • For example, when sending images of your floor maps:
      • embed your images into a google document and
      • export it as a PDF so all of your floor map images are combined into one file.
  4. Email your video link and final project documents to the8elements@gmail.com.

Please note: If we can’t open or read your submission, the entire assignment may be marked incomplete and you’ll need to sign up for the next testing period. Remember that we don’t offer extensions or refunds, so double check that everything is included and that we can read it, thanks so much!
